1. Who we are

GingerNOMAD (Ginger Nomad Weather) is provided by Ginger Nomad. Registered business name: Import Air Limited, trading as Ginger Nomad. 2. What this service is

GingerNOMAD is a free planning aid for paraglider and hang-glider pilots. It brings together weather forecasts, flying-site information, and AI-generated narrative content across several parts of the app, and computes a suitability colour (green/yellow/red/grey/closed) for a chosen site, day, discipline and competency profile. It is not a certified aviation weather service, an air-safety authority, or a substitute for official meteorological or aviation sources.

3. Nature of the content

• Weather data comes from a third-party forecast provider, and you can choose between several available forecast models (including an "Auto" option, which itself picks a different underlying model for different sites and lead times). Because forecast models disagree with each other, the same site, date, discipline and competency can show a different colour rating depending purely on which model is selected. This is expected model disagreement, not a fault in the app, and switching models is not a way of finding the "correct" answer. It is a forecast model output, not a guarantee, and is subject to that provider's own accuracy limitations.
• Flying-site data (direction envelopes, restrictions, access rules, status) comes from a mix of sources: a legacy database, club site guides gathered from public club websites, and the BHPA's recreational club directory. Always confirm current rules and access directly with the club or landowner before flying; treat this app as a starting point, not the final word.
• ParaglidingEarth points, where shown on the map, are a separate community-sourced third-party dataset, displayed as unverified reference points only, never given a flyability colour, since no site-specific rules exist for them in our database.
• AI-generated content. Several parts of this app, including site briefings, club briefings, graph explanations, the Help chatbot, and the settings explainer, are written by third-party AI language models from the same underlying weather and site data shown elsewhere on the page. None of it is reviewed by a person before you see it, and like any AI system, it can misstate facts, omit important details, or state things that sound plausible but are not accurate. This applies equally to every AI-generated answer in the app, including the Help chatbot; treat all of it as a rough summary only, never as more reliable than the raw data it was generated from, and never as a substitute for the safety and responsibility statements in sections 5 and 6. The AI briefing is generated independently of, and does not verify, endorse, or add authority to, the colour-coded suitability rating shown beside it. The two are separate outputs from the same underlying data, computed by entirely different processes (a fixed rules engine for the colour; a language model for the text), and neither should be read as confirming the other. If the AI service is temporarily unavailable, the app shows an automated, non-AI summary built from the same underlying data and marks it "Offline"; this is an expected fallback, not an error, and requires no action from you. We do not claim ownership of AI-generated text shown to you, and make no representation as to its copyright status; you may share or quote it informally, but should not represent it as your own original writing or as an official Ginger Nomad statement.
• Pilot-submitted "conditions right now" reports are short, optional free-text updates submitted directly by app users, shown live on the site for a few hours. They are not reviewed, verified, or moderated before publication, and we do not check who submitted a report, when they were actually on site, or whether it is accurate. Treat these the same way you would an unverified comment from a stranger: a possible data point, never a substitute for your own on-site assessment, and never confirmation that it is safe to fly. See section 8 for the terms that apply if you submit one.
• Club/school presence markers. Where a flying club or school's logo appears on a site's Wind Rose or map as currently or scheduled to be flying there, this reflects a schedule entered in advance by that organisation or our administrators, shown only where the relevant club or school has agreed to it; it is not a live location feed, and is not verified by us in real time. It may be inaccurate if plans changed after the schedule was set. Do not treat it as confirmation that a site is open, safe, or being actively monitored, and it does not imply that Ginger Nomad endorses, is affiliated with, or is responsible for that club or school's services or safety record.

4. Location and driving directions

If you use the "Get directions" feature, this app asks your browser for your device's precise location (GPS-derived, not just IP-based) so it can calculate a real driving route to the site. This feature is switched on by default; your browser will still show its own native permission prompt the first time it is used, and no location is requested unless you allow that prompt. You can turn this off at any time in Global Settings, and your browser's own location permission for this site can also be revoked independently at any time in your browser's own site settings. When used, your precise location and the site's coordinates are sent to our routing provider (OpenRouteService, or a demo routing service in local testing) solely to calculate the route. This is the only feature in this app where your precise real-world location is shared outside our own systems. It is not stored against any profile and is not linked to the anonymous, coarse analytics described in section 11. Driving directions are generated automatically and are not checked by us for accuracy, road/track legal status, or suitability for your vehicle; you are responsible for checking that any route is legal, safe, and appropriate before you drive it.

5. No safety certification, no professional advice

Nothing in this app is a safety certification, a go/no-go instruction, or an authorisation to fly. It does not replace instructor sign-off, currency checks, club briefings, or official airspace/NOTAM checks. Paragliding and hang-gliding are inherently dangerous activities that carry a risk of serious injury or death, regardless of the quality of information available.

6. Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for assessing actual on-site conditions, your own currency and competency, the condition of your equipment, applicable club and site rules, and your decision to fly. No colour rating, forecast, or AI briefing in this app substitutes for that judgement.

7. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we do not accept liability for any injury, death, loss, or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this app or the information in it. This is a statement about what the service promises to do: a planning aid, not a safety determination. It does not exclude our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, or for fraud, because the law does not allow that. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits that liability, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

8. Pilot-submitted reports

By submitting a "conditions right now" report, you grant Ginger Nomad a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and remove that text on this app. You must not submit anything false, defamatory, abusive, or unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to share. We do not moderate reports before they go live, but we may remove any report, and may block a device or IP address from submitting further reports, at our discretion and without notice.

9. Third-party services, branding and links

This app links to and displays data from third-party services (Open-Meteo, the BHPA, ParaglidingEarth, individual clubs' own websites, our routing provider, and third-party AI providers). We do not control those services, do not endorse them, and are not responsible for their content or availability. Their own terms of use apply to your use of them. Where this app refers to other weather or forecasting services or products by name (for example, in comparisons of which forecast models are used elsewhere), those names and any associated logos are trademarks of their respective owners, used only for factual, informational comparison; this does not imply any endorsement of, or affiliation with, Ginger Nomad by those services.

Some site pages may display the branding (name and/or logo) of flying clubs or schools associated with a site, such as scheduled club/school sessions shown on the map. This branding is displayed only where the relevant club or school has agreed to it, and identifies their scheduled presence at that site only; it does not imply that Ginger Nomad endorses, is affiliated with, partners with, or is responsible for that club or school's services, safety record, or business conduct. Schedules are set by our administrators and may not always be perfectly up to date; if you notice a school's branding displayed in error, please contact us using the details in section 14 and we will correct it promptly.

Site branding elements shown throughout the app, including the site logo, AI-briefing panel background, and seasonal decorative graphics, are uploaded and managed by Ginger Nomad administrators. Anyone with administrator access who uploads such content warrants that they own it or hold the necessary rights to display it here. Decorative content of this kind is cosmetic only and carries no flying-safety meaning.

The map's optional "Weather Stations" layer displays the real, live locations of weather stations operated by UK flying clubs. Where you open one, the popup embeds that station's own live reading directly from the third-party service the club uses to publish it (Holfuy or Davis WeatherLink) — this is a courtesy embed of a real club's own page, not Ginger Nomad's own weather data, and each popup credits and links back to the underlying provider and, where known, the operating club. We do not control those stations, their data, or their availability, are not responsible for their accuracy, and do not verify their live readings on an ongoing basis. Which stations appear is set by our administrators from real, individually-sourced club stations; if you notice one displayed in error or a club would like its station added or removed, please contact us using the details in section 14.

10. Availability

This is a free service provided on an as-available basis, with no uptime guarantee or service level agreement. It may change or be withdrawn at any time.

11. Data protection

Your unit preference, last-selected club, aircraft and competency choices are stored only in your own browser (localStorage) and are never sent to us. We do not operate user accounts, and we do not ask you to provide your name, email address, or any other directly-identifying information to use this app. We do process a limited amount of technical and location data automatically (described below), which UK GDPR treats as personal data even though it doesn't identify you by name, we handle it accordingly, on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service, and keep it to the minimum needed for the purposes stated.

We record anonymous technical usage data on every page view: which page, when, the referring page, your browser/device/operating system type (parsed from your browser's own information), and a coarse, city-level location derived from your IP address by our hosting provider (never GPS-precise). This is used only for our own internal reporting (for example, understanding which flying sites and regions are most viewed), is not shared with any third party, and is not used for marketing. We also maintain a short-lived, real-time record of which page is currently being viewed, used only by site administrators to see live traffic, tied to a temporary session key that exists only in your browser for your current visit and is never used to build a profile of you or identify you across visits. See section 4 for how a separate, precise location feature works for driving directions specifically.

IP addresses. As of 1 September 2026, we also record your device's real IP address alongside each page view and each AI-generated briefing you request, and we retain this against those records rather than discarding it. We do this for two purposes: to prevent abuse of the service (for example, blocking a source that is hammering the app or generating excessive AI requests), and so we can, on request, look up and delete the data associated with a specific IP address. This is a change from our previous practice, which discarded your raw IP address and kept only a coarse, city-level location; we made this notice update at the same time as the change, as promised in the wording this section previously carried. An IP address is treated as personal data under UK GDPR even though it does not identify you by name, and we process it on the same legitimate- interest basis as the rest of this section, kept to the minimum needed for the stated purposes. We do not sell, share, or use it for marketing, and we do not combine it with any other identifying information, since this app collects none. You can ask us to search for and delete all data held against a specific IP address at any time - see section 14 for how to contact us.

Our internal error/debug logs, used to diagnose technical problems, do not currently capture your IP address, precise location, or other data that could identify you beyond what is described above. If that changes, this notice will be updated first. As the range of data described above has grown, we may in future publish a standalone privacy notice covering it in more detail. This section remains the current, complete description of what we collect and why until that happens.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date below reflects the last update.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, where Ginger Nomad is based. This app is free to use and shows flying sites across the whole of the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland, where some consumer-law details can differ from England and Wales. Nothing on this page is a statement of Scots law or Northern Ireland law, and nothing here is legal advice for any part of the UK. If you are based in Scotland or Northern Ireland and have a legal question about this service, you should get your own independent advice rather than rely on this page.
